Introducing The 2e Talent Club
Hi, This is Evelyn So. In The 2e Futurist, I cover behind-the-scene updates about The 2e Talent Club, an upcoming unique online community for Twice Exceptional (2e) kids to showcase knowledge, connect with peers, engage in healthy screen time, and develop critical skills.
Occasionally, I also share thoughts and observations on 2e/Gifted and Neurodiversity in general.
I want to kick off this newsletter by introducing my current project, The 2e Talent Club. It is in beta development right now - and you will have the chance to participate as a beta tester in the fall (or even earlier!).
For many years, I had been thinking about “a day in the life” of a 2e kid. Always, this image is dominated by the “challenging exceptionalities”. Whether in school or at home, a lot of effort and attention goes to managing their conditions e.g. controlling ADHD impulses, improving executive function, working on ASD emotional regulation, to name just a few examples.
The strength - such as advanced intellect (Giftedness) - is overshadowed.
We don’t choose to make our kids’ life negative. We act out of necessity - attending to crisis, focusing on improvements…all to make room for the strengths to shine.
Still, the balance is off.
So, how can we inject some positivity in a 2e kid’s life while managing the big picture?
This nagging question grows louder and louder in my head.
An image of a “strength-centric space” emerges. A very vague idea.
Should it be a physical space? Or if digital, what does it mean? What exactly do kids do in this space to gain that positive experience?
The 2e Talent Club is the result of 2 years of pondering, observing, and analysing.
2 thing I’ve honed in:
What engages 2e kids? What do they enjoy doing?
What do 2e parents want? What are their concerns?
Having identified a list of needs and pain points, I set out to design a space that checks all the boxes.
In the coming posts, I will share more about the thinking behind the design.
Meanwhile, I hope you can
